Why Microbiome Health Matters for Your Patients

Why Microbiome Health Matters for Your Patients

A balanced vaginal microbiome is essential for maintaining a healthy vaginal environment. When in balance, it’s made up of beneficial bacteria, mainly Lactobacillus species, which protect against infections by maintaining a low pH to support an acidic environment (1,2), necessary for healthy lactobacilli to thrive.

When the Microbiome is Out of Balance

An imbalance in the vaginal microbiome can lead to conditions like BV, yeast infections, and urinary tract infections (UTIs) (1,2). These imbalances also increase the risk of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and complications like preterm birth (1,2). The repeated use of antibiotics does not support the recovery of healthy lactobacilli. Because many women do not have their own protective lactobacillus species, they continue to get recurrent infections.

The Bio-Match® Difference

Supporting a Healthy Vaginal Ecosystem

Maintaining a healthy vaginal ecosystem relies on creating conditions that match the optimal vaginal pH, osmotic balance, and support the natural flora. Our Bio-Match® products are developed using biomimicry, a scientific approach that studies nature's models to solve human challenges. Specifically, our lubricants and moisturizers are formulated to reinforce the protective functions of healthy vaginal secretions.

Key Features of Bio-Match® Products:

  • Matches a healthy vaginal pH (pH Rating: 3.6 - 4.5)

  • Supports the growth of beneficial vaginal flora

  • Mimics natural vaginal secretions

  • Iso-osmolar (250 - 500 mOsmol/kg)

  • Contains a balanced level of lactic acid

  • Free from parabens, petrochemicals, polyquaterniums, and synthetic fragrances

As a microbiologist with 15+ years of experience in microbiome science, I understand the critical role of a stable, Lactobacillus-dominant vaginal microbiome in maintaining health. Disruptions can lead to infections, discomfort, and gynecological conditions. At Vaginal Biome Science, Inc., we advance understanding of the vaginal microbiome and develop Bio-match® technologies and microbiome-supportive solutions to promote long-term vaginal health.

The Institute for Vaginal Health is Backed by Expertise in the Vaginal Microbiome

Vaginal Biome Science (VBS) is the sister biotechnology company to IVH. They are dedicated to advancing precision diagnostics and therapeutics in vaginal health. Their work focuses on the quantitative assessment of the vaginal microbiome, a critical determinant of gynecologic and
urogenital health.

Leveraging their patented Bio-Match® technology and the VENUS Vaginal Microbiome Data Collection Study—which integrates qPCR and Whole Genome Sequencing across 12 common vaginal conditions—they are developing evidence-based solutions to address the $21.3B market for vaginal health innovations. By translating microbiome research into actionable clinical insights, VBS aims to enhance diagnostic accuracy, optimize therapeutic interventions, and redefine the standard of care in vaginal healthcare.

Foundational research demonstrates the efficacy of Bio-Match® Technology

Multiple pilot clinical trial report improvements in vaginal health, including a reduction in pH level, symptom relief, and no recurrent infections over time with daily product use.
